Welcome to Foodie Friday. Glad you're here!
Sickness still prevails in our neck of the woods. But I was cheered when I found photographs from a long-ago picnic at our farm.
The simple menu included salad, fruit, bread, and wine.
Colors were inspired by the vintage tablecloth.
The bee skep added a touch of texture and whimsy.
Polka dotted pottery and gingham napkins
beckon from the cheery tablecloth.
A tiered compote is a handy serving item when space it tight, as it is here.
(I covered a small metal accent table with the vintage linen.)
The red glasses are also vintage. I love mixing old and new tableware.
Quite by accident, the dots on the pottery mimic the currants in the bakery scones.
Another look at the compote.
The golden hour approaches, those lovely moments when the sun falls at an angle, softening as it passes through the atmosphere, producing a characteristic amber glow.
Love the chippy Adirondacks.
What's your favorite picnic menu?
A short update on Rattlebridge. I haven't been able to personally check on the progress, but my contractor's assistant sent photos of the modified newel post.
Sunlight streams through the windows we added over the front door.
Below is the old post--much, much fatter, isn't it?
And now, the smaller one. The scale is perfect.
I love it!
Before you go, don't forget to leave a comment and share your favorite summer picnic menu. Or, if you know a good recipe for a healing bowl of chicken soup, I'd love to hear it.
To join the Foodie Friday linky party, look for the Inlinkz blue frog icon and follow the directions. After your link goes live, you may see an X; it's not an error--it allows you to delete your link. Also, I'm having issues today with Blogger and Inlinkz. I'm working on a solution. Have a great weekend.

Sure hope you get well very soon. Getting sick sure interferes with our plans, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteBlessings for a speedy recovery.

Enjoyed seeing the picnic pictures again. Wish I knew of a healing soup to send you - pneumonia is bad stuff.
ReplyDeleteLike the new post - I agree more to scale.
Sent you an email.

ReplyDeleteLove all the reds in your picnic photos! Of course, the food looks wonderful too. I like the tiered compote ~ I'm short on space here and that's a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI so wish you were feeling better! It really gets old doesn't it? My son just had pnuemonia and is now in Taiwan on business. Not a time for a trip like that! Take good care of yourself and yes, chicken soup should help.
I like to use a rotisserie chicken, savory flavor. To start, I place chicken broth, chopped onions and celery in a large pot and let it simmer for a bit. Then put the whole chicken in and leave it for about 20 minutes on a low boil. After that, remove it and take all the meat off the bone. Return the meat, shredded carrots and any other seasonings to the pot. Leave it on a medium low heat until about 30 minutes before you're ready to serve. Add the egg noodles and simmer for about 15 min. Ladle it into bowls, eat heartily and feel better!

Thanks for hosting. My favorite picnic foods are watermelon And good home grown tomatoes! I hope you get well soon. I like making my own soup from chicken breast on the bone. It makes a great broth. Add carrots, celery and onion. Lots of S&P. Cook for a couple hours. Shred the chicken in the soup and add rice. Serve with avocado.
ReplyDeletePS - the new post is the perfect scale. Much better, and the window over the front door - again, perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt is all about proportion. I have a platonic ideal of an exterior railing from a late 18th c house... absolutely perfect proportions. They are called newel posts, not monoliths!
ReplyDeleteHi Sweetie~ ~
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear that you and your family are feeling much better. There is so many more pleasant things to do this time of year than to lay around treating a nasty illness.
