Since the previous post was animal-oriented, I thought I'd continue this nature-oriented theme and share a Youtube video that shows how dogs drink water--in slow motion. It's not at all like I imagined. The Discovery Channel investigated this doggly phenomena, and the "time warped" results are fascinating...if you are a dog person, that is.
(Since the blog's Playlist music will kick in and make it difficult to hear this video, scroll down the page, and look at the right-hand side. Stop at the green "Playlist" box. Click on the far left "pause" key, and that should stop the volume.)
Stay tuned for the next blog post when we visit Mom of a German Shorthair and her dog--Belle.
How interesting! I always knew dogs do something strange when they drink water, and with some dogs the water goes everywhere. I would have never thought that they are lapping the water "upside down"! Amazing. Thanks. laurie
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting!! I've had dogs all my life and I also thought they used their tongue in a foreward scoop. Wow! Fun to know! Vanna
ReplyDeleteFasinating!!!!
ReplyDeleteBuffie :)
Thank you! This was so cool. Loved the slow motion water balloon at the end too. :0} Diane
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a 'dog' person and I found the clip extremely informative. Holy....what kind of a lense or video camera does that dude have?
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to seeing 'A day in Belle's life".
WOW!! Now I am wishing OUR tongues bent back like that too!!! Not sure why cause I am sure not going to drink out of a bowl like that but it just looks so EFFICIENT:):) Can't WAIT to see your post with Linda/ Mom!!!!!!! She is SUCH a wonderful person and her sweet Belle is a treasure. HURRY TOMORROW:):) Pinky
ReplyDeleteMichael: Thought I wud include this as a separate comment. I had quite a laugh this afternoon when I went to my favourite bookstore (Chapters) to ensure all the books on my Christmas Wish list were available. Unfortunately the only one that wasn't; was your Mermaid in the Attic (not available until January 6th.) So I ordered it of course and a separate receipt was processed....in the amount of Fifteen Million Dollars and Seventy cents. LOL I exclaimed "I hope you have made a mistake"!! I explained to her 'that I indirectly knew the Author and you did have a lot of critters to feed and a new pair of binnoculars to purchase :) however regardless that included taxes I felt your book was a tad over-priced'. We had a good laugh
ReplyDeleteabout it and the transaction was quickly altered. SORRY!!!!!!
(If you don't wish to post this comment, I will certainly understand. I just wanted to share it with you.)
Now THAT is cool to know! I have three dogs and now I'm going to be getting down on the ground to watch them drink! Lol!
ReplyDeleteJust got in from a weekend in Hot Springs...and bought 2 of your books at Books a Million! :-)
Can't wait to read!
Cool! I always thought their tongues scooped the other direction, makes sense that this is the way it works when you think about it!
ReplyDeleteLaura :)
This was truly fascinating..can't wait to see a day in Miss Belle's life..hugs ~lynne~
ReplyDeleteLOL, LOL...I hope I'm not cluttering up your pages, but I am a 'bright light' aren't I? I just recv'd a email confirmation regarding my order of your new book and I see it is Mermaids in the BASEMENT. LOL, LOL, where did I ever get 'in the Attic' from, I'll never know LOL, LOL. I pulled out my receipt and it says 'Basement' just like your Blog posting.

Hardly embarrassing! PLEASE accept my apology.

Mrs. Ben, that story was so funny! I like attic. :-)
ReplyDeleteGG, as a "Dog Mom", that was FASCINATING! (I could only get the "original" water pic, tho~ no more came thru! Hmmm, must be me!) And that "Mr.Picture Man" is kinda CUTE, too!!! Am HONORED that "my girl" will soon be in a GOLLUM BLOG~ OMG, that is SUCH a "WOW!" in "my little corner of the world"!!! ~~~ It will warm my heart too, as RIGHT NOW she is off, in Kansas, for a week of huntin' w/ DH & the other guys w/ THEIR huntin' dawwwgggsss! (And they're having a ball, of course!). Am USED to DH being gone, but Lordie, I sure do MISS the BELLE-GIRL ALOT!!! THANKS, ggf! Love, Linda
ReplyDeleteLinda, you would love this tube. If you Google Youtube and Dog Drinking Water in Slow Motion, you will get oodles of hits. Or go to www.Youtube.com and type in dog drinking water. Also, let me know if you have a certain song you'd like to hear on "Belle's" post.
ReplyDeleteYou're tooooo darling & too much!!! Thanks, am going to go there shortly!!! I will most CERTAINLY l-o-v-e that!!! Since it must be "be nice to Linda" week (I got unexpected FLOWERS delivered today~ from a great friend, "just because"!), how about John Denver's song about flying like an Eagle? (Don't know the "techical name, but he sings about it ...flying like an eagle... and I can just picture that and the Rockies with snow and oh! DIVINE!). It just so reminds ME of the beauty of the outdoors and nature in all it's glory and closeness to Him! Probably impossible to find "nowadays", but, THANKS for being sooo thoughtful in asking!~~~ Happy Hugs, Linda
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool post. It brought to mind the time I brought home my schnauzer pup Griffey. He didn't now how to drink out of a bowl but he kept trying. He'd stick his whole face in the bowl and snort and sputter. My older schnauzer Dusty had enough of that and actually taught him how to drink. I wished I would have video taped it. ~ Robyn
ReplyDeleteMust confess I had never given a thought to just how dogs drink water .... loved your post today. I am also a dog lover ... had my English Springer Chloe for almost twelve years and still miss her.
ReplyDeleteOnce again you have fasinated us with your blog!! Who would have thought!!
ReplyDeleteI find myself compelled to be 3 inches from Jesse's water bowl the next time he drinks to see if I can catch the backward dip!
Mary
Learn something new everyday! How fun! Did you know that flies take off backwards? I am full of all sorts of totally random and useless info. By the way, it is GIVEAWAY time on my blog. So come on over!
ReplyDeleteGG, THANKS ~ Am "on my way"~~~!!! And MRS Ben, you are so "funnnneeee"~ DEFINITELY in "top form" here, kiddo! (Are you in "writing-cahoots" with out Gracious Gollum these days? Smiles!)~ Thanks for the chuckle!!! Thanks for GG!!! Warm hugs, Linda (Oh yes, how about "That's Life" by Frank Sinatra?!?!?! Grins~~~)~~~
ReplyDelete"Uh oh", girlfriend! "TROUBLE IN PARADISE"??? (with a GRIN, tho!)~~~ Better go see Lynne's (decorator 101) 17th pic ~~~ I dunnnnnooo, GG ~~~~ looks like some STIFF COMPETITION for our MISTER (no "PUN" intended!)~~~ Love, Linda (& Belle, in absentia!)~~~ Off to the dentist now!!!
ReplyDeleteThat just seems so backwards! Really interesting Gollum! I have to look more closely under Alfies tongue to see what kind of reservoir is there.
ReplyDeleteLisa & Alfie
Having lots of computer issues here. It took 5 full mintues to upload your blog, and another 4 to upload the comments section. I'm not a patient person so this was pure agony. I hope my computer will behave so I can see the upcoming Mom/Linda's World with Belle post.
ReplyDeleteTo Mrs. Ben, talk about inflation! lol The books of Gollum are excellent so I'm happy you were able to pay the normal retail fee. Enjoy!
This is just awesome...thanks for letting us know about this...
ReplyDeletelove, bj
Ooo I love that Mogillevsky photo - it looks like some sort of Ice Queen Tiarra. Great shot!
